Arrange design references on an infinite canvas

Use the Blabla Canvas plugin to bring reference images and text together on a local board. Keep your material in the library and arrange a board for each project.

From a reference collection to a visual direction

Compare images in one view, place related material together and leave text beside the references that inform your choices. A canvas gives your project a spatial layout alongside the library’s collections and tags.

Get started

  1. Install or enable the Canvas plugin, then create a Canvas document in Blabla.
  2. Add reference images from the library to your canvas.
  3. Arrange the references and add text to record what you want to explore. Return to the document as your project develops.

Explore two visual directions

Try an example board for a brand project, with one area for typography and another for photography.

  1. Gather the references

Start with images already in your local library.

  2. Arrange by direction

Place related images near one another so you can compare their composition, color and mood.

  3. Write down the decision

Add text describing what you want to keep or change. Use a separate Markdown document for longer notes.

Before you get started

Do I need a plugin?

Yes. Canvas documents are created and edited through the Blabla Canvas plugin. Canvas and Markdown are separate plugins.

How is a canvas different from a collection?

Collections and tags organize material in the library. A canvas lets you arrange references spatially and add text for a particular project.

Does this replace every feature of another canvas app?

No. Check the file formats and features your workflow needs before migrating. A local reference board does not imply online collaboration or compatibility with another app’s document format.
